The Wedding Budget 101

It's hard to find a place to start when planning a wedding. First and foremost, a budget must be in place. Be sure to stick within the average percentages and you will be just fine. Take a deep breath, you will do just fine. Here goes:

  • Attire 5-12%
  • Cake 2-3%
  • Ceremony 6-10%
  • Entertainment 3-10%
  • Flowers 5-15%
  • Invitations 2-5%
  • Reception 35-55%
  • Photography/Video 7-13%
  • Transportation 2%
  • Rings 7-15%

Setting a budget template will help determine amounts to spend in each category. The good news is that if you find a golden nugget under budget in one category - it can roll over to another.

I have created my budget below. This is not the end-all and be-all just yet, but is a good starting point.

  • 1.Reception (food) 45%
  • 2. Photography/Video 10%
  • 3. Flowers 10%
  • 4. Ceremony 7%
  • 5. Entertainment 5%
  • 6. Attire 5%
  • 7. Cake 2%
  • 8. Transportation 2%
  • 9. Invitations 2%
  • 10. Miscellaneous snazzy extras 12%

Just a thought...You can do your own invitations...You can price them at a place that does them *blonde moment...and then price them at Hallmark. You can buy really pretty ones and then load up the stuff on your computer and put the paper in the printer and off you go!
